Basic First Aid Training
First aid level 1 is a basic first aid course that teaches learners how to perform emergency care and lifesaving skills in low-risk environments or for a small number of workers. It is a mandatory qualification for all workplaces in South Africa and may be required by other governing bodies or employers. The course covers theoretical knowledge and practical skills such as CPR, choking, and contacting the emergency services. It is delivered by registered and takes 7 to 8 hours to complete.
The content of this course is formulated around the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993, General Safety Regulations. The content of the course includes, but is not limited to:
- The introduction to and overview of Basic First Aid, Emergency Scene Management, and Patient Management
- Managing Emergency Situations, Basic First Aid Principles, and Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, and;
- First Aid Principles and Emergency Procedures including Patient Recovery and the Treatment of Common Injuries and Illness.
Employees who are elected in and office environment to be appointed first aiders within the workplace to assist with basic first aid in a medical emergency. In an emergency at the workplace, the first aid representative will be able to react, treat, and deal with the situation calmly and safely, until competent medical care arrives.
Medical emergencies such as heart attacks, choking, falls cuts or burns can happen at any time. This one-day Basic First Aid course equips the learner with the knowledge, practical skills & understanding required to provide appropriate first-aid treatment for injuries and sudden illness until medical professionals arrive to take over.
